Well, maybe these are not good examples of women making great music....BUT these are songs you've probably forgotten about and I want to remind you of their greatness (horribleness?).
Hoku - Another Dumb Blonde: Think Nickelodeon, year 2000 and there are likely tv shows that come to mind but that was the year the movie Snow Day came out. This song was in the movie and the music video was used to promote the movie on Nickelodeon.
Willa Ford - I Wanna Be Bad: I unfortunately couldn't find the explicit video but found the MTV edited version instead, sorry! This is such a great song that it was even in an Amanda Bynes movie (What a Girl Wants) so you know it HAS to be great.
Hilary Duff - Why Not: I mean why not do a crazy dance. You might as well because you already look like a fool for listening to Lizzie McGuire. PS is anyone else weirded out that she is married and pregnant!
No Secrets - That's What Girls Do: I do not remember this band ever existing and yet I know ALL of the words to this song. They also may be more recognized for their remake of Kids in America.
It's easy to play a bad girl: You just do everything you've been told not to do. - Eliza Dushku
LOVE the songs, especially 'that's what girls do' since I somehow remember every single word! but all are wonderfully cheesy oldies. I don't remember the Hoku song, but the music video was soooo 90's, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteHoku is from Hawaii! I totally jammed to some of these back in the day. (Or maybe one is still on my running playlist...)
ReplyDeletei LOVE "I wanna be bad", sometimes it is my themesong and I remember during a gryphon meeting we had to give a song that captured our mood and I, having no shame, picked this one. so good every time. EVERY TIME.
ReplyDeleteAlso I didn't even know this hoku or hilary song. what was i even DOING in elementary school?!
