Old Music Tuesday: New Voices

I hate doing this (cause I obviously didn't do it for Glee, twice, or The Sing-Off) but after watching The Voice I need to share some of these interesting talented superstars.  Correction: female superstars...not on purpose...I swear.

Charlotte Sometimes singing Apologize by One Republic:  Super different, a little strange, extremely awesome.  I think if I could sing like someone it would be her.  Don't worry I won't try or sing for you..unless we play rock band (anyone wanna play rock band?).

Juliet Simms singing Oh! Darling by The Beatles:  This is what I wanted Ke$ha to be like.  She is a gritty true rock star that just doesn't exist any more and is hardly ever female.

Mathai singing Rumour Has It by Adele: One of my favorite songs of 2011 is now my favorite song of 2012 with Mathai making it a whole new awesomeness.

Erin Martin singing Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's: Keeping up with the strange and interesting voices.   But her voice might be more weird than talented.  And this song needs to go away.

Based on when Adam's chair turned around we seem to have the same taste in female vocalists.  AKA we were meant to be together.

I have a certain positive vibe that I carry with me wherever I go.  I try and put it out there, to invite people around me to jump on in, and be positive as well.  Because I am a big believer in the theory that you get back...what you put out - Cee Lo Green

Old Music Tuesday: Remembering Boy Bands

With all this new boy band drama AKA One Direction, I am in the mood to reminisce about some of my old favorites..

Five -When The Lights Go Out: Yes, I had this album even though this was the only song worth my money.. too bad ITunes didn't exist yet. I also had no idea why the lights going out was so exciting.  I figured I would start off with the least explosive boy band, so here it goes:

*NSync - Here We Go: I wanted to use "You Got It" but instead opted for one with a music video (Do you see these dance moves??-they will change your life).  Also I totally rewrote the lyrics to this song with a friend at day camp in 5th grade for color war .."...yes yes yes here we go the blue team's got the flow goodbye white goodbye red in the end you will be dead..."  I obviously still know the rest of our lyrics.  I obviously still think this is cool.

98 Degrees - The Hardest Thing: Don't you wish you also made the poor life decision to get 98ยบ tattooed on your shoulder?  So as to continue the over-sharing of my childhood...I made up a dance to this song but unfortunately I only remember a few moves (I do remember the entire dance I made up in third grade with a friend to Stop by The Spice Girls and the one I made with my co-counselor for my campers lip sync two summers ago).

Backstreet Boys - Quit Playing Games With My Heart:  I was always a Backstreet Boys girl AKA I was madly in love with Nick Carter.  Besides the entire first album, I Want it That Way was my favorite song.  The best day of my young and pointless life was when my bus counselor, who I had a crush on because my best friend had a crush on him, sang along while it was playing on the radio and kissed my hand...  Anyways I just found out that they were formed by a guy who stole a lot of money and is currently in jail.

I'm sorry for the TMI feel free to blame the UK's X Factor for forcing me to listen to boy bands again.

To me the 90's signaled the end of glam rock, the beginning of gangsta rap, and hopefully the beginning and end of boy bands. -Shane West
